On Friday 4th October, we motored across the A66 to Shap in order to participate in a walking weekend with Stockton Rambling Club. We stayed at the Best Western Shap Wells Hotel {NY 578 096} for three nights.
During the weekend, we did two A-Walks - each one starting from the A685 road near Low Borrow Bridge {NY 607 014}. The Saturday walk (led by Phil) took in Borrowdale Wood, Whinfell Beacon, Old High, Mabbin Crag, Ashstead Fell, Breast High, Bretherdale Head, Greenholme and High Scales. The walk finished back at the hotel where we were staying. The Sunday walk (led by Jane) went to Salterwath Bridge, Carlingill Bridge, Black Force, Docker Knott, Bleagill Head, Simon's Seat (on Langdale Fell), Middleton, High Shaw, Town Head and Raisgill Hall. The walk then finished in the small villge of Orton {NY 622 082}.
